We have never seen anything like this.
This Victorian mourning ring has six trap windows, one of which has a small ball attached to it for opening. When moved, all six trap windows slide open to reveal an inner circlet of brown hair. The inside of the band is engraved, in script, with "Caroline Barker, died 9th March 1885." A fascinating and intriguing piece, it offers a halting glimpse into the Victorian mourning customs.
